Day 19

Awaken Us: 40 Days to Fast & Pray – Day 19

I have a confession to make.  I don’t like reading the book of Lamentations.  When I am reading the Bible I usually skip over Lamentations.  Why?  Lamentations reminds me that the loving, merciful, kind God of the Universe will not allow his children to rebel against him forever.  In Deuteronomy Chapter 8, he basically told them that peace, prosperity, and blessing would be theirs — IF they followed the ways of the Lord.  He solemnly warned them that like the nations that fell before them, they would perish as a nation if they forgot God.

In America, we are seeing the unraveling of our nation, because we have forgotten God.  God will let us have it our way, if we insist.  But Lamentations does remind us (8:19-32) that God is a God of Mercy — that the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end — that He will have compassion, according to His steadfast love.  Let us pray that the Lord will awaken us so that we return to Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  Great is His faithfulness.

Here is something to think about, though.  America can’t return to Him.  It is Americans who can return. It is I who need to seek His face.  It is I who must walk away from sin.  It is I who must humble myself and pray.  In America, it is “We, the People” who must take these steps.  Are you called by His Name? Then the responsibility is yours and mine.  We can’t make revival happen.  Only God can send a Great Awakening.  All I can do is praise Him, thank Him, humble myself and repent of my sins, and then ask Him to send revival to me and my nation.

One Response to Day 19

  1. Debbie says:

True, that revival starts with us… But that is not all we can do. I believe we must also actively be witnessing to our loved ones & co-workers & neighbors who do not know the Lord. God has given each of us a sphere of influence – it is our responsibility also to reach out to them & lovingly tell them the Truth. We are seed planters & waterers! Our lives must also reflect God’s love & deliverance!
