Day 24

Awaken Us: 40 Days to Fast & Pray – Day 24

Matthew 7:7-11 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.  Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?  If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Earlier in this fasting and prayer effort, we shared that in Matthew 6, Jesus gave us instructions on how to pray and fast.  He said, “when” not “if” we fast and pray!  Lest you be offended that fasting and prayer is mandatory, let’s realize that God has our best interests in mind.  Similar, but even better, than a parent feels toward their own child, God treasures us and all of our wishes and desires.

Sometimes we believe the worst of God, or we don’t really believe Him at all. If we did, we would pray as much as possible!  Our wills would choose to spend the time to seek God for HIS will and then we would pray accordingly.  Faith is so important in the process of prayer, not only for motivation to see God’s promises come to pass in our lives as well as in others we pray for, but also to please God!

Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

As we “will“ to pray in obedience to God, not only will God increase our faith, but He will open our spirit eyes and ears. May God change our wills and increase our faith as we pray today!
