Day 6

Awaken Us: 40 Days to Fast & Pray – Day 6

“O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.” Psalm 10:17-18

As you may recall, we have patterned this 40 day fast after what the churches in Cairo, Egypt did at the end of last year.  Their fasting and prayers brought significant spiritual awakening to the country and it has spread throughout the Middle East.  Thousands are coming to Christ.

But, it’s the best of times and the worst of times.  As you are reading this the future of a democratic Egypt, free from the enslavement of militant Islam, is hanging in the balance. Tomorrow elections will be held throughout the country.  In the natural, the persecuted Christian minority doesn’t have a chance.  Militant Muslims are going into the homes of our brothers and sisters in Christ and torturing them, and they plan to physically keep them from voting tomorrow.

But we – and they – don’t live in the natural, do we? Our God is able to deliver!  Just days ago over 71,000 Christians met for prayer on a city dump – one of the few places they could meet unhindered – on the outskirts of Cairo. It was the largest Christian gathering in 1,000 years in Egypt. As you pray this day, please remember struggling Christians in Egypt, as well as those being persecuted in other countries. Ask that God would have mercy and deliver our brothers and sisters in Egypt from the intentions of the extremists during these elections. Our God is able!
