Day 8

Awaken Us: 40 Days to Fast & Pray – Day 8

God’s ways are higher than our ways.  In fact, often, what seems right to us is the opposite of God’s principles.  Until we read it in the Bible, who would actually think that it is good and best to “love our enemies and do good to those who persecute” us. Our flesh wants revenge, but God says, “vengeance is mine.”

Sometimes our prayers, and claiming God’s promises to us, are the same.  We claim success and satisfaction, but get what seems the opposite response from God. This can seem cruel, but then again, I remember my own children claiming that I must not “love” them because dinner wasn’t ready exactly when they wanted it. The delay of 5 minutes seemed cruel to their hungry tummies.  Or when bedtime came at an uncomfortable time, “tearing” them away from their favorite toy or game.

Allowing God to be God when we pray can be painful, and it takes unrelenting trust in our “loving and faithful” God to do what is best for us… and the whole world.  God doesn’t “need” us to trust Him.  But WE need to trust Him.  He really is good all the time.  He knows the past and the future all at the same time, and when we trust Him completely, He WILL be faithful and do the very best thing for us! Let us cry out to Him in Humble trust that He knows best!
