Day 22

Awaken Us: 40 Days to Fast & Pray – Day 22

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Gal. 3:28

One amazing aspect of revival is the way it brings divergent types of people together.  During the Cane Ridge, Kentucky revivals of the early 1800’s, rich and poor; black and white mingled and worshipped together.  There is something about God’s Presence that knocks down the walls in our lives.  Sadly, once the revival ended, all went back to living separately.

Another example of this “coming together” took place in a historic United Methodist church in Virginia where Barbi and I ministered.  This church was founded around 1804 as Methodism was sweeping the country.  Blacks and whites came together for worship.  However, as years went by the black people were told they had to sit in the balcony, separate from the white people.  As more years went by they finally left to form their own church.  Can you blame them?

Thank God we’ve made great strides in the area of race and racism.  But there is still a need for godly people to reach out to everyone different than them.  True revival in our hearts will overcome all our prejudices and pride!  In most communities these days there are African-American, Asian, Hispanic and a host of other people groups that we can share the love of Christ with.  But it takes our getting out of our comfort zones and, perhaps, doing something as simple as walking across the street…

Thank God that, as the verse above says, we are all one in Jesus Christ. Pray that “oneness” would not only be theological, but in every real and practical sense, as well.
