Day 37

Awaken Us: 40 Days to Fast & Pray – Day 37

“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross.”  Philippians 2:5-8

As I have been reading, once again, Andrew Murray’s classic, “Humility.” I am reminded of the great example Jesus gave us while on earth of the most treasured principle of a truly Godly life. Jesus Christ embodied the quintessence of the secret of redemption… the humility of God personified in human nature. He was so emptied of Himself, and so surrendered to the Father’s will, that He alone is able to take away the sins of the world.

This passage in Philippians 2 goes on, “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (verses 9-11)

Andrew Murray comments, “If humility is the root of the tree, its nature must be seen in every branch, leaf, and fruit. If humility is the first, the all-inclusive grace of the life of Jesus, the secret of His atonement – then the health and strength of our spiritual life will entirely depend upon our putting this grace first, too. We must make humility the chief thing we admire in Him, the chief thing we ask of Him, the one thing for which we sacrifice all else.”

Let us humble ourselves…
